S.T.A.R. Homework Folders

I have done S.T.A.R folder/binders for the last 10 years and will never go back.  When I taught 2nd and 3rd,  my students had a binder.  Now that I am back in Kindergarten, my students get folders.
Here is what I use

  1. Red vinyl 2-pocket folders (Wal-Mart .50)
  2. Labels  One for the front, one for each pocket and one for the plastic sleeve
  3. Two plastic sleeves 1 for home/school communication, the other for sight word lists,
  4. Pencil pouch to hold flash cards
  5. Card stock copy laminated and hole punched of the Alpha Friends and the Phonics Song
Kindergarten Homework

This is their folder from Wal-Mart for .50

My folders go to and from school each day.  Homework is to be completed nightly and returned the following day.  No homework on Fridays, the folders stay at school for the weekends.

Students also have reading homework each night.  This year they will get a bag of books on Mondays and return the bag with the 5 books on Fridays.  My friend is making me book bags.  I'll post those once they are done.

So, tell me about your homework folders...

Hi Tiffani,
I love your homework folder labels. Also, happy to see Spanish on your labels since about half of my class is usually Spanish speaking.

Tanya, the majority of my kids are Spanish speaking, so it just seemed like a no-brainer. We have to send all note in Eng/Span, but homework can be English only. When I can, I do add the Spanish directions.

Wow! I love this idea! I have a silly question--do you have these labels available as a download? I would LOVE to use them this year. I have mostly spanish-speaking families as well, and I don't speak any Spanish. Did you print the labels onto self-stick labels or did you tape them or glue them on? Thanks! tillack@verizon.net
