The Best Classroom Activities for Reading with The Snowy Day

It's no secret that my favorite book from my childhood is The Snowy Day. Every year I look forward to sharing my love for this book with my students.

Now that we are back in person, my students will be able to experience this book.  We will end the week with a pretend trip to the snow.

We will explore several different reading strategies while reading this book.  First, will we practice making predictions, After I read the first few pages, we will make predictions about the book.

We will also work on story retelling, vocabulary, text connections, and inference.  This book is such a great way to introduce all of these reading strategies. I have created some posters to help my students understand the different components of the reading strategies we will be focussing on.

We will create an anchor chart when we are learning about cause and effect.

I also like to incorporate art into my book studies.  I have two art projects for us to complete. One will also include some writing.

We will finish out the week by making and playing in the snow.  I love to use the Steve Spangler Instant Snow Powder.
