New York and eScholastic

I have big news-- Small town girl goes to the Big Apple.
In early June I received an email from Scholastic.  They wanted to discuss the possibility of me working with them on their eScholastic blog.  At first I thought it was spam mail, but I kindly responded.  After several emails, a phone call and my husbands IT forensic expertise.  I knew it was legit.  On August 5th I boarded a plane for New York.  When I arrived a driver holding a sign with my name on it was waiting by the baggage carousel.  Once my bag was collected, he took me on a long drive, through a super long!!!! tunnel to my hotel in Midtown.

That evening I met up with two of my other fellow bloggers for dinner and a walk around Times Square.  I still couldn't believe I was in New York and I was going to Scholastic, to work with them.  The following morning we all met in the lobby and took a cab ride over to the Scholastic offices in Soho.  After brief introductions we all were given time to present our PowerPoint presentations about ourselves.  I was amazed at the difference between all of our work environments.  yet, no one seemed to have an ideal work situation.

After introductions we began our training on their new blog platform, followed up by our own personal photo shoots.  I have  always wanted to go to New York to be a model, I guess this is as close as I will ever come.

During the day we met many different people all involved with the eScholastic website.  They truly wanted to know our thoughts, desires and things we'd like to see Scholastic do in the future.

That evening we were taken to a great restaurant for drinks, dinner and dessert.  When we arrived there were books at our place settings.  The photos in these books are amazing.  I wish I had had the time to see it all.

DAY 2

Back to Scholastic for a little training on SEO, tagging and photo taking.  We were then each given a digital camera to ensure we took great photos and videos.  After a great lunch in their cafeteira, I was able to visit their store.

After lunch, most of the other bloggers had to leave for their flights home,  A few of us took the subway back to the hotel.  Being that I had never been to New York, I extended my stay and had my daughter meet me there to celebrate her 19th birthday.  We had four days to see and do everything we possibly could.

This is a little bit of what we did:
  • Ground Zero/World Trade Center.
  • Shopping at Century 21
  • Empire State Building
  • Macy's
  • Walked 34th Street
  • Stature of Liberty
  • Ellis island
  • Saw the Musical Chicago
  • Times Square
  • Picture taken with the Naked Cowboy
  • Shopped Fifth Avenue at
  • Tiffany's
  • Bergdorf Goodman
  • FAO Schwarz
  • Saw the musical Mama Mia
  • Soho
  • Took the subway to Brooklyn- by accident
  • Got caught in a rain storm
  • Ate amazing pie from Pie Face
  • Took a crazy cab ride to JFK
  • Had our flight cancelled and next flight delayed 6 hours.

So back to my big news.  I will be writing a weekly blog post for eScholastic.  It is scheduled to post every Tuesday.  I will post links just as soon as we go live.  i truly don't know how they found me, when i asked they said my blog name had come up several times.    All of my blogging has finally paid off.  I am super excited for my new adventure.

SOOO happy for you Tiffani! How fun your new position will be! And they surely chose the best blogger ever to work with- YOU! Just wish you met with them a few weeks earlier when I was in NYC too. I would have loved you to give you a big congratulations hug!
