You Just May Lose 1 in the Shuffle

Ok so I never said having 32 kindergartners was easy, but it is doable-  However you just may lose one in the shuffle.  This is exactly what i did today.  When we came back from snack i had an extra K-kid.  i sent her back to her room, then took attendance again just to make sure I had all of mine.  Everyone was answered for.  Then off to centers we go, until I call a students name and she isn't there.  We check the hall and the bathroom, then call the office.  I then wonder if she left for home.  She had said she wanted to go home.  Of course, that is what she did.  She walked home.  Luckily she lives very close to the school.  She even told her grandma "the teacher brought me home"  Grandma brings her back, asks me if I brought her home, then makes her apologize. She then leaves her with me to finish the last half hour.  Please tell me you lost stories, I know I'm not the only Kindergarten teacher who has had kids just leave school.

Oh my goodness!! It is very hard to keep track when you have so many. I am so glad she was safe and sound somewhere! I haven't had any wander away from me at school, but I've had my fair share of bus/car rider/walker mix-ups leaving me and the parents scrambling to find out where their little darling went and why they didn't follow directions!

I left two in the cafeteria, because they were sitting at the peanut free table...it was embarrassing, until one of the children said, "Wow it was fun walking back with the 1st grade." He thought I had given them a special treat.

32! I am guessing you spend a lot of time counting heads! Wow, that is a lot.

haha! oh my goodness! I lost a kiddo on the first day of summer school...she just decided not to come back in from recess and I had all 27 of my students in tow behind me trying to find her!

I was walking mine back from specials at the end of the day and Danny P. just walked out the front door and got on the school bus. I couldn't find him, just glad I missed him, and I had to do an all call for Danny P. Luckily, we found him on the bus ready to go!! MY friend and I still laugh about the all call. "Danny P. come to the office, Danny P. report to the office please!"
