Number Hunt 1-100

100th day activities
February 1st was our hundredth day of school.  We had so much to do that we had to extend some our activities into the following week. I wanted to share with you our number hunt that could be done any time of the year.  This game was really telling of which kids new their numbers and who had a strong sense of place value and number sense in general.  I have one of those old large fabric floor graphs I think it is from Math Their Way.  I inherited it about 17 years ago.  I took a stack of post-it notes and numbered them from 1-100.  I placed them all around my room.  I gave my kids each a number chart and had them walk around and color in the matching numbers that they found.  This was interesting to watch the strategies.  Some hunted for numbers in order- others stood in one spot and colored in each number they found, and others... well they just colored.

Next, I told each kid to find 4 numbers and bring them back to the carpet.  Slowly we started placing the numbers on the floor graph.  We started with the first row, then the 10's column.  Soon, a few kids could see where their numbers went.  I had a lot of reversal 42, put where 24 went.  I do think that they had a hard time in the beginning understanding that two numbers went in each box.  In the end, we did finish it.

I will try this again, but with a smaller group of numbers and make my own floor graph.  I'm thinking that a shower curtain and painters tape will work.  Next year I will do this monthly working our way up to 100.

Admiring the hard work you put into your website and detailed information you present. It’s good to come across a blog every once in a while that isn’t the same outdated rehashed information. Wonderful read! I’ve bookmarked your site and I’m adding your RSS feeds to my Google account.advertising | advertisment | production houses in pakistan | pakistani matrimony
